During the summer of 2021, I returned to northern Italy after 15 years of living abroad. I soon began a photographic journey documenting the river culture of my native land. Shortly after, this journey became an emotional exploration of my childhood memories, a rediscovery of the river spots I used to explore with my friends during Summer seasons. Without noticing, I began to leave descriptive language in favor of a more intimate, symbolic, evocative one.
Costumi Postumi is the testimony of a small, primordial reality. A corner of the Italian Apennines that escapes history, resisting amidst the collapse of modernity and the slow destruction of the wild world. It is a journey into an untouched wonder, a memory crystallized in time: an Italian Summer whose contours I can no longer discern as real or dreamed. And yet, it remains deeply meaningful—to our land, to our stories, and the collective unconscious we share.
An ode to our land, our church. To the sanctuaries that forged us. To the places of peace and contemplation, of rumble and freedom. In which the boundary between man and Nature often blurs, and the mystery of the world is still accessible.

The last step of this project will be a photo book. If you want to contribute to its creation, you can purchase the Costumi-zine or the Fine Art prints that I prepared in collaboration with Fotofabbrica. Shop
